Ask about a faculty salary, a department or college average (tenure-track vs. non-tenure-track), a budget line, a trend over the years, or a comparison between universities. Answers come only from the source documents and arrive as a table and chart whenever the numbers call for one — or click a suggested follow-up.
Counting every budgeted faculty line in WSU's six academic colleges (Dean and Associate/Assistant Dean roles tracked separately, not as TT or NTT; department chairs counted as faculty by rank; endowed-chair professors and support staff counted by their faculty rank): filled tenure-track positions fell from 361 in FY22 to 325 in FY27 (−36, −10.0%), while non-tenure-track positions rose from 151 to 220 (+69, +45.7%). FY27 includes 19 faculty who joined after the budget book.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences lost the most tenure-track faculty of any college — 140 down to 125 (−15 positions, −11%) — 42% of the entire university's FY22→FY27 TT decline (−15 of −36) concentrated in one college. See every college →
Faculty FTE = filled tenure-track and non-tenure-track positions. Staff FTE = all other filled positions: support staff, professional staff and deans (department chairs count as faculty). Every budget unit in the university is included; vacancies are not.

Reading it. Faculty FTE +9.7% (487.3 to 534.6); staff FTE +32.4% (1,441.0 to 1,907.5). Most of the staff growth is in NIAR (192.5 to 584.9) and the Division of Research (101.9 to 132.4); without them, staff per faculty FTE went from 2.35 to 2.23.
Counted by the title printed in the budget book: President, Provost and Vice Presidents; Associate and Assistant Vice Presidents, Vice Provosts and chief officers; Deans, associate deans and assistant deans. Assistants to these officers and vacant positions are not counted.

Every named, filled position that is not faculty — support staff, professional staff, deans and executives — counted once per person with all of their budget lines added up. Faculty, including department chairs, are not in it. The line is fixed in each year's dollars: WSU gave about 5% in across-the-board raises over these years, so people cross it through market adjustments, reclassification or new positions.
Every line the budget book prints as Vacant, with the amount budgeted for it. Faculty vacancies are tenure-track or non-tenure-track by the position title (department chairs are faculty); every other vacant line is staff. A vacant line is a funded position being held open or recruited, so people hired after the book was printed appear here first.
Vacant and filled lines in each college's own budget units, counted by person. Faculty on research-unit lines are not here, and post-book hires are not yet in the book, so the filled faculty counts run a little below the headline counts on the college pages. Staff = support staff, professional staff and dean-type lines.
This site is a personal, independent compilation and analysis of publicly available documents: the annual operating budget books and budgeted-employee reports published by Wichita State University, the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, the University of Nebraska system and the University of Oklahoma, enrollment factbooks, and the State of Kansas payroll records published through KansasOpenGov. It is not an official publication, statement, or position of any of those universities, the Kansas Board of Regents, the State of Kansas, or any of their offices, and has not been reviewed or endorsed by them. Figures were extracted programmatically from PDF and spreadsheet documents, linked across years and across sources by name, and summarized by software. The "Ask the data" answers and the "why this salary changed" explanations are generated by an AI assistant from that data. While figures were cross-checked against the source documents during preparation, extraction, name-matching, title-classification, department-merging and AI-interpretation errors are possible, and some figures (hire-year vacancy budgets, split budget lines, merged department names) are the author's reconstructions, explained where they appear. Budgeted salaries are what a budget book funded a position at, and payroll figures are calendar-year totals as published by the state; neither is a statement of what any individual ultimately earned, and none of it is advice. Nothing on this site should be used for any employment, compensation, evaluation, hiring or other decision about any person — readers should verify against the original source documents linked in this page's footer. Everything is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, and the author accepts no liability for errors or for any use made of it. Names appear only as they are printed in those public records; anyone who believes a figure about them is wrong is invited to point to the source line and it will be corrected. Category labels ("Instruction," "Academic Support," "Institutional Support," etc.) and their plain-language descriptions reflect WSU's own budget-program definitions; the "faculty salary proxy" language used for Instruction is this author's characterization, not an official designation, since the Instruction program also includes some non-salary instructional costs.
